The short version. MacVac has no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting and no account. It makes exactly one kind of network request — asking a single URL for a version number — and you can switch that off. Everything it learns about your Mac stays on your Mac.

What MacVac reads

MacVac asks for Full Disk Access because it cannot measure what it cannot read. With that permission it walks the directories it is scanning and records file sizes, modification dates, names and types. On request it will analyse one folder in more detail, which involves reading the first few kilobytes of files to identify what they are.

All of that stays in memory or in MacVac’s own preferences on your Mac. None of it is transmitted anywhere. There is no server to transmit it to.

What MacVac stores

MacVac keeps a small amount of state in your macOS preferences:

All of it lives on your Mac and is removed when you delete the app’s preferences. You can clear the removal log at any time from the History page.

Network access

MacVac makes one network request: a plain GET to https://macvac.app/latest.json, at most once a day, asking what the current version is.

We keep no logs of these requests beyond whatever our web host retains as standard server logs, which we do not analyse or associate with anyone.

Analytics and tracking

There are none. No analytics SDK, no telemetry, no crash reporter, no advertising identifier, no fingerprinting. This website sets no cookies and embeds no third-party scripts or fonts.

Purchases

MacVac Pro is not yet available. When it is, purchases will be handled by a payment processor who will hold your billing details under their own privacy policy — MacVac will never see or store your payment information. A licence will be verified on your Mac without contacting any server.

Children

MacVac is a utility for general audiences and is not directed at children. It collects no personal information from anyone.

Your rights

Because MacVac collects no personal data, there is nothing for us to export, correct or delete on your behalf. Everything MacVac knows is on your own machine and under your control.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top will change with it. A change that materially affects what MacVac does with your data would ship alongside an app update that says so.
