In plain terms. MacVac is a tool that moves files to your Trash after showing you exactly what it will move. You stay responsible for what you agree to remove and for having backups. It is provided as-is, without warranty.
These terms cover your use of the MacVac application and the macvac.app website (together, “MacVac”). By downloading or using MacVac you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use it. MacVac is provided by Jacob Biller (“we”, “us”).
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use MacVac on Macs you own or control. You may not redistribute, sell, rent or sublicense it, remove or alter its notices, or reverse engineer it except where that right cannot lawfully be excluded.
A Pro licence key is issued to you and is not to be shared or published. Publishing a key ends the licence it belongs to.
MacVac moves files to your Trash. It does not permanently delete them — items stay recoverable until you empty the Trash yourself. Before anything moves, MacVac shows a dry run of every path it proposes to touch.
You decide what is removed. MacVac makes recommendations and shows its reasoning, but the decision to act on them is yours. You are responsible for reviewing what is proposed, and for maintaining your own backups. We strongly recommend keeping a current backup before removing anything.
Some features hand a task to macOS itself — for example asking the Finder to move an application that requires an administrator password. Those actions are performed by macOS under your authorisation, not by MacVac.
MacVac asks for Full Disk Access so it can measure directories macOS otherwise hides. Granting it is your choice and can be withdrawn at any time in System Settings. Without it MacVac still runs, but its totals are a lower bound and it says so.
Pro licences, when available, are sold as a one-time purchase through a third-party payment processor acting as merchant of record. Their terms govern the transaction, billing and tax.
If MacVac Pro does not do what this website says it does, write to us within 30 days of purchase and we will refund you. We would rather refund someone than have them keep something they are unhappy with.
MacVac may tell you when a newer version exists. It never downloads or installs an update on its own — you choose whether to get it. We may change, add or remove features over time. A Pro licence covers the major version it was bought for.
MacVac is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that its recommendations are correct for your particular machine.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data, lost profits or business interruption, arising from your use of MacVac — even if advised such damages were possible.
Our total liability for any claim relating to MacVac will not exceed the amount you paid for it in the twelve months before the claim, or US$50 if you paid nothing.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence. Consumers keep any statutory rights that cannot be excluded.
Use MacVac only on machines you own or are authorised to administer, and only in ways that are lawful.
This licence ends if you breach these terms. You may end it at any time by deleting MacVac. Sections 7, 8 and 11 survive termination.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, United States, without regard to its conflict of law rules, and the courts located there will have exclusive jurisdiction — except where the law of your country of residence grants you the right to bring proceedings in your own local courts.
We may update these terms. The date at the top will change, and continuing to use MacVac after a change means you accept the revised terms.
